German legend Lothar Mattheus’s comments on Rangers have not gone down well with fans, not to mention the idiocy of the Celtic punters who’ve tried to use them as ammo against the club.
Mattheus labelled Rangers ‘third rate’ as a dig at Dortmund for losing to us, pointing out we’re second behind Celtic.
True, our form isn’t vintage these days, and the dig is at both Dortmund and Rangers.
But it’s what he said about Celtic that is actually even worse, yet the misguided in the east have seized upon the Rangers bit.
So while he’s taking a bit of a jibe at us, which our form in recent months has probably earned (albeit we’re clearly not third rate in Europe), the fact he’s slaughtered Celtic as being horsed in a worse competition to a bunch of Norwegians has been a bit glossed over.
Not only by Celtic punters, but by the media, who have gone with the Rangers quote instead.
Not an ‘attack on the Old Firm’ but ‘third rate Rangers’.
It’s Rangers they all care about. Even when a legend is actually smearing Celtic and Dortmund.
