Major development on Alex Lowry could see big Rangers decision

There’s no question Joe Aribo’s form is below par. We love the lad, but even he has conceded his performances since returning from Africa have been well beneath what he’s capable of, and for the first time as a Rangers player, certainly recently, we’d consider resting him.

With Red Star on Thursday, that would be a very bold call, because the man who would be the only other senior 10 Rangers have in our squad to replace him, Ianis Hagi, is out potentially till autumn.

Which leaves one more man to take up the playmaker mantle, and choosing him would be extremely radical.

Alex Lowry has done little but impress, given the opportunities, and while he’s still only a teenager and we’re loathe to put too much pressure on young shoulders, there’s an opportunity here. With his recent U19 Scotland call up, he’s clearly well rated in the game.

Joe Aribo is well off the pace, and needs a little break we think. To regather his focus.

Is Alex Lowry ready to play against Red Star?!

Of course, it’ll never happen. The Nigerian will start – but if Gio was brave young Lowry could play a big role in the match.

We want to see youth succeed, as long, of course, as they’re sincerely good enough. The majority of players through our academy will be reared then sold off to lower league teams, occasionally an SPL team, and that’s how the system is supposed to work.

But occasionally a Nathan Patterson or Lowry breaks through and is deemed good enough for our first team.

With Aribo below par, this might be Lowry’s chance to prove himself.

What’s the worst that can happen?

  1. I said weeks ago we have to give this young lad more game time but I think he will maybe come on as a sub but aribo will start no doubt about it. But I can see young Lowry going far I hope he gets more game time as the season goes on bit he’s a star in the making
