GVB makes major Rangers declaration
No wonder he's so positive....

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has endorsed Ibrox Noise’s stance and declared there’s absolutely no reason Rangers cannot go all the way in the Europa League.

The Dutch boss, buoyant after a first-leg throttling of Red Star Belgrade, stated quite calmly that any side left in the Europa League surely has to have designs on winning it.

Why would you be in the last 16, quarters if you didn’t have any aspirations that way?

That kind of lack of ambition was nowhere to be seen in 2007/2008 as we got to the Uefa Cup final, and it shouldn’t be awol today either.

Gio said:

“If we reach our levels and performances, we have a big chance to go to the next round. Any team now left in this tournament can win it in the end, we just have to make sure the team who will win it will be mostly the team who plays all the game at a high level and don’t make mistakes.”

Correct.

The reality is only a loser club would be at this stage of the tournament doing this well but having no ambition to go all the way.

Reality is that’s what the mentality was under Gerrard, the meek performances against Leverkusen and Praha have been put in their place this season, and under Gio in Europe at the latter stages we’re a completely different animal.

Sure, we may still lose 4-0 next week, and we may therefore not win this competition, but we must believe we can.

We must believe we can get to the final, that we can overcome big sides.

If we can beat Borussia, why not?

  1. Hearing too much talk of the next round and going all the way. We’ve got a helluva job still to do in Belgrade. Should we make it then I’ll happily go into the next game with some confidence but it’ll be one game at a time.
