Glimmer of hope for Aaron Ramsey as Rangers cruise through

We refuse to jump head-first into the nonsense conclusions which have some punters and pundits claiming all is sorted with Aaron Ramsey because he looked polished v Dundee.

In what amounted to a training match as easy as the wins over Albion and Annan, Rangers disposed of the hapless Mark McGhee outfit whose current form ranks among the worst in the country.

To secure anything other than a comfortable win at Dens would have been tantamount to sheer embarrassment and Rangers did what was professionally required in Dundee to secure semifinal status.

Which brings us onto Ramsey.

The Welshman has had a terrible time since arriving in Govan, and will just be absolutely thrilled to get around 80 minutes of action under his belt, giving him a foothold towards some match fitness.

It is true he played well, but up against absolute cannon fodder there’s not exactly a lot of serious conclusions we can draw otherwise.

What we can say is we’re pleased for him – he’s been desperate to start and show what he can do, and while the opponents were disposable, he did that. Some nice touches, passes, vision and composure.

For Ramsey’s own self-worth, confidence and self-esteem, those 80 minutes were priceless.

There’s no question he’s a top player, who’s verged on world class in his carer and is easily one of the biggest names Rangers have ever signed.

That it hasn’t worked out yet is a terrible disappointment, but it doesn’t take away from the name.

We want Ramsey to succeed, because it’s better for us to have a fully-fit talent of that quality in our team than not to.

Do we have any expectations?

No, almost a month and a half of little from the midfielder has dimmed our hopes, but Giovanni may have seen enough at Dens to want to give Ramsey another outing or two.

It’s not like domestically we’ve been imperious this calendar year, so a fit and ready Ramsey as competition will only drive the standard up.

If he can get the old player back, if he can chain together a few good matches and start to show what he’s really about, few would argue against that.

It’s just… if he can…

  1. I hope he can play a part in 56 , he’s quality that’s never been in doubt . I enjoyed young Sands performance too. I think this lad had some potential .

  2. There are 2 things we know for sure about Ramsey. One he’s a fantastic player and two he’s not match fit. The worry is we put him into a Celtic game and the game just whizzes by him. My gut feeling is that we’ll run out of games and never quite get him to a level that we need. But as always I’m happy to be proved wrong.
