The Gustavo Hamer to Rangers links are back, but this time they hold a lot more water given Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the man who gave the Dutch youth international his start in football at Feyenoord.
The Coventry defensive/central midfielder, 24, has become a mainstay at City and Rangers are certainly looking to bolster options come the summer, and with the ex-Zwolle star down to a year left on his deal this summer, Rangers are hoping to get him for a fraction of his current £2.5M market value.
Because, of course, that worked so well with John Souttar and Danilho Doehki (!)
Being serious though Rangers should always be looking to improve and Hamer is clearly a talented player, with plenty Championship appearances under his belt.
But we are wary.
There have been quite a few players we’ve looked at or signed that excelled in the Dutch top flight or Belgian, and then found themselves in the English Championship (or vice versa) but weren’t good enough to get picked up by a PL side.
Is that the calibre of player we should always be looking at?
Celtic are also reportedly interested in Hamer.
