France international defender on a free – Rangers should move

We know Rangers will be securing John Souttar come the summer, but another defensive free agent, currently without a club at present, could be a pretty lucrative addition.

And unlike other big names, isn’t hampered by injury…

Former France international Laurent Koscielny is currently available for any club globally, and while his salary at ex-club Bordeaux was on the high side at £45,000, there would well be wriggle room for the 36-year old at Ibrox.

ESPECIALLY if we secure the filthy lucre by way of the Champions League in winning 56.

A lot of things do depend on winning the title (or winning the UEL?), due to the budget hike it’ll give the club, but in the meantime, could the ex-Arsenal stopper be worth a gamble on?

Rangers do now have Leon Balogun and Fil Helander back fit, but for how long?

Connor Goldson is the only fit CB we seem to permanently have, and even then, that’s still only 3 CBs.

Koscielny could be a very useful fourth addition, if his salary can fit into Rangers’ wage structure.

This is an at one point £20M defender, so we’re not talking about something average – he’s got over 50 caps for his nation, he’s got 41 appearances in the CL, and he’s got experience of PL and Ligue 1.

If there’s something workable in this, Rangers could be wise to add an experienced name into defence.

We could sure do with a leader or two back there…
