Confusion over Steven Davis as Rangers midfielder gets call
Football - 2021 / 2022 Scottish Premier League - Glasgow Rangers vs Celtic - Ibrox Stadium - Sunday 29th August 2021 Steven Davis of Rangers during the warm up PUBLICATIONxNOTxINxUK

We must admit a bit of confusion over the Steven Davis situation, with the Rangers midfielder completely unfit to be in the squad recently, but nevertheless called up by Ian Baraclough for his country.

The quotes from his NT boss are further bewildering, as he actually admits the midfielder is injured.

So why did he call him up?

It’s a strange one – Davis has been suffering niggles for about 2+ months, and Baraclough confirms this, but then makes no sense with the follow up:

“He’s out of the picture at Rangers at the moment having had a couple of little niggles and the team have done well, so it’s been difficult for him to get back into the side.”

Well, no, Ian, it’s not ‘difficult’, it’s impossible. He’s injured.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed only one day ago Davis remains injured, and unavailable to be part of the squad right now, so we have zero clue why Baraclough called him up.

Remember the shambles with Leon Balogun’s injury keeping him out of all Rangers matches, but Nigeria’s misguided manager (now fired) called him up for AFCON, which he then had to withdraw from?

This from Baraclough reeks of the same – a strange call up with even stranger quotes, all dancing around the fact Davis is injured.

We just don’t understand this one.
