Back the board? Back the fans? Back the club?

Back the board? Back the fans? Back the club?
Can't help wondering what happened with all that cash...

We’ve tried to be fair over the whole Rangers board saga of the past few months. Or years, depending how you look at it.

This board significantly gave us 55, and certainly helped fund the Journey to it, and for that we are grateful.

We were major supporters of Douglas Park’s promotion to interim chairman then getting the job permanently, due to the dignity with which he has held himself since getting on the board. He’s a man we admired.

But we are the first to say that he and the board’s running of the club since we won 55 has been a literal shambles, and evidence of a regime who doesn’t know how to be Champions and who lack experience in a boardroom.

We’re not going to go through the litany of errors they’ve made since March last year, because there’s been enough to embarrass almost everyone, but the board is, absolutely, 100% NOT the only one accountable here.

Fans have had a role to play too, and some of the conduct among supporters in recent times (not even including the shambles at Dens Park) has been far from what we’d expect from our fans, and fan groups like Club 1872 have not held themselves in any glory either, with digs at the board constantly and their own political in-fighting.

Then you have ex-Rangers men Ferguson, Hateley and Albertz not to mention King openly berating the board, in comments which don’t really help anyone, even if their views aren’t exactly wrong.

It’s just such a mess, and it comes at a time when Rangers are aiming to create history with a quite staggering treble.

Unfortunately, the board only made it worse in the past week – after attracting so much ire over the Old Firm friendly, instead of accepting fan wishes and offering olive branches, they instead berated supporters over Dens and Dortmund and demanded they do not enter the field of play again. Or else.

It’s not helping.

It’s PR disaster after PR disaster and it comes from all sides.

A lot has been labelled at new PR man David Graham, who is the communicator and scribe behind the statements. But this is actually a little unfair – it was no better under Jim Traynor, his predecessor.

Rangers’ PR hasn’t been terribly good for as long as we can remember, but it’s being provoked by a fanbase and media that attacks it just as much.

We’re going into a HUGE period in Rangers’ history, and we do wish everyone would just grow up.

  1. Can’t agree with what you said. The board are not interested in listening to the fan’s 1872 proves the point, they don’t interact with them at all. The ONLY time the board are interested in the fan’s, is when the renewal of season tickets are due and when the new KIT’S are for sale.Remember without the fan’s you don’t have a club, you could say it’s the same for the board no money from the board again no club. In my opinion it’s the FAN’S who should be listened to. RTID WATP NSE.

    • They’re not interested in 1872 because of King and the fact 1872 has individuals in it who have undermined them. And those internal politics. Right or wrong, that’s why they don’t bother with them.
