Rangers last night produced a performance for the ages as they comfortably put away the mighty Borussia Dortmund on their own patch.

Ibrox Noise brings you our ratings on an evening to remember for the Famous.

McGregor:

Shockingly, we begin with by some distance our weakest performer. McGregor has been out of sorts for a long time, and last night he could have done better with both shots – one made him look like diving isn’t his strength any more, the other he didn’t even move for. Kicking was off, and was booked for time wasting. He didn’t shine. 5

Tavernier:

Lots of the ball (no one got it more), lots of crossing, and worked hard at both ends. Tavernier has his critics but he had the balls to take the penalty, and he took it brilliantly. Defensively sound, and got in a few dribbles too. 8

Goldson:

We’re always honest on Ibrox Noise, and Goldson wasn’t really at it. Caught out a few times by leaving his man unmarked, and was let off twice by dreadful finishing. Managed a fair few clearances but the rest of his game wasn’t quite on it. He was just ok. 6

Bassey:

Showed up Goldson a bit by dominating his man and managing quite a few defensive intrusions. He was physical in this one and worked hard to read his position. 7

Barisic:

He’s slowly inching back into a bit of belief. Ok his crossing wasn’t good, but he was trying. Tried a few things which didn’t work, and wasn’t linking up too well with Ryan Kent, but boy did he keep plugging at it. Defensively excellent and barely gave an inch down his side. Only really exposed once. He can hold his head high. Nearly scored as well. 7

Jack:

Rangers have missed this guy so badly – his dig and graft in the middle allowed everyone to flourish. Is there any coincidence his return has coincided with Rangers hitting form again? What a player. 9

Lundstram:

Continues his stellar form with another titanic performance. His goal was world class and his passing not far behind. He is the complete all-round midfielder and performances like this show what an amazing signing he’s turning out to be. 10.

Kent:

Just wow. Kent was incredible, not just because of his attacking contribution (he got an assist and was heavily involved in every attack) but because defensively he was tracking back and working so hard to help out. In many ways this is the most complete performance he’s ever had. Just missed a goal. 10

Aribo:

Aribo’s subdued form does continue – he got better as this one went on but he was again a bit quiet. He’s in a little lull and we look forward to him coming out of it. 7

Arfield:

Can’t fault his effort – Scotty was working the channels, middle, everywhere, trying to be a nuisance, but we’d be the first to admit it wasn’t the best he’s ever been. Still, he played his part. 6

Morelos:

Vintage, European titanic Morelos. We can’t say any more. A goal, mischief, and just all-round top stuff. Can you call him world class when he plays this well against this calibre of defender? 10

Subs:

Sands:

Can be delighted with his maiden outing at this level. He did very well and got in some key blocks. Wasn’t overawed at all. 6

The rest of the subs were just cameos.

Gio:

Selected exactly the team we predicted bar Lunny for Kamara, and boy did he (and we ha!) nail it with that selection. While not every player was stellar, the team as a whole was, and each player worked hard – they couldn’t have put more in. It’s the best European display for a generation and Gio can be deeply proud of this. 10

NB:

A lot of readers will think we’re being stingy with the ratings – but the reality is we aren’t rating the scoreline or the team performance, we’re rating each player. And we’ll always be honest. They’re based on both what we (believe) we saw (everyone sees things differently) and statistical analysis. If we just gave everyone a 10 for such an incredible result it would be a false interpretation where some players didn’t quite hit their best.

  1. One of my mates predicted the starting 11 pre match and I couldn’t disagree with dropping Lundstram. What a player he looks with Jack alongside him. What a team we look with Jack and Buff back in the side. More of the same please Rangers. Absolutely tremendous stuff.

  2. I agree with almost all of your ratings IN, apart from Arfield . I thought he worked really hard and did some stuff others don’t like. I agree with the 10 ratings defo Kent and Morelos are Top Drawer in that form. I’m a little perplexed about Joe Aribo he’s very subdued, his header for Morelos goal was excellent but his cut and thrust strength is missing , perhaps its Afcon hangover. Great to know we can improve this team with Ramsay, Hellander , Sakala Roofe and a few others. I can’t wait to see Ramsay play a full game I think his influence could be massive. So very proud .

    • Ratings and comments spot on IN. Just imagine how our season could be if we can keep Kent and Morelos in that kind of form, get Aribo and Barisic back to their best, ease Helander or Balogun back into the defence, find space for Ramsey and see if Diallo can follow up his early promise.
