We saw this one mentioned elsewhere, in that former Rangers midfielder Juninho Bacuna is having a whale of a time in the Championship, leading to questions as to why he had such a poor one at Ibrox.

The Curacao international struggled with Rangers, a fish out of water, but his CV was strong, with good times in Holland with Groningen, then in England’s Championship with Huddersfield, and now once again with Birmingham.

His ratings for each performance have statistically been a consistent 7/10, and this is at a much higher level of competition than the SPL.

The Championship, let’s face it, ruins the SPL completely, with Scotland’s top flight somewhere between upper League Two to lower Championship. Rangers and Celtic are the two aberrations, big enough for the PL, but that’s another debate.

So why is Bacuna thriving at a stronger level than the SPL?

Simple – the expectations with both Huddersfield and Birmingham aren’t even close to the pressure at Ibrox.

John Lundstram was shocked by the absolute pressure in Govan, the ‘win at all costs’ mentality and how it is the end of the world if you even draw. He’s up to speed now, but mentally it took adjusting.

But it’s not for everyone. The shirt weighs heavily and the likes of Bacuna couldn’t carry it.

So take that pressure off, give him a midtable team, albeit Brum are barely even at that level, and suddenly he has more slack to express himself.

He’s doing ok there, and we wish him well, but he was the wrong man at the wrong time for Rangers.
