As Ibrox Noise has been reporting for the past two weeks (we were amused to see one Rangers ‘fan’ dismiss our story suggesting if we reported rain he’d look out the window) Erling Haaland has all but been ruled out of this week’s first leg with Dortmund, with German media confirming the chances of him making the visit of the Famous to be practically nil.

Reported as a hip injury on this occasion, Haaland has missed a chunk of the season through various knocks and tweaks as well as issues with his muscles, and while it’s a boost to Rangers’ chances to progression, it’s also a bit of a shame for the spectacle of the occasion that the world’s best striker, aside Lewandowski, will not face the Light Blues.

That said, Rangers do still face an almighty task – Dortmund are a world class team, and put away the 6th-placed side, Union Berlin, with some ease, on their own patch.

Admittedly Berlin did have a goal ruled out, for an elbow in the build up, but it was already 3-0 and game over at that point.

So don’t think for one moment the Norwegian’s absence makes a huge difference – yes, he is a top striker and would have been a serious danger, but Dortmund are still going to be tough as old boots without him.

Let the games commence.
