Rangers have received a long overdue boost with the confirmation the club is FINALLY talking to Scott Arfield about extending his deal.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst publicly pressured the board in his last press conference, confirming for his own part that he wanted to keep the former Canadian international, following months of radio silence on the matter from the suits, following the ex-Falkirk man himself revealing he wanted to stay 100%.

And now, finally, the top brass have listened and the 33-year and his agent are speaking to the club at long last about a new deal to take him beyond this summer.

Arfield has been one of Rangers’ outstanding performers, not just this season but his entire spell at Ibrox. He’s given everything to the shirt, never complained, and got on with whatever he was asked to.

But the lack of a new deal was conspicuous, and following Turkish and American interest in such a lucrative Bosman, he and Gio made it clear they wanted his continued stay in Govan.

And now that appears to be happening.

Thank goodness.

Just don’t lowball the man, Rangers.
