It’s probably time to ‘rest’ Connor Goldson

It’s fashionable to bash Connor Goldson. He’s shipped four goals in two matches, and hasn’t in any way been a 10th of the impressive soldier he appeared to be under SG and 55.

He was, however, pretty poor up till 55, and the majority of his seasons at Rangers have been average to decent, with a spot of rotten in there as well.

Why is it fashionable to bash him?

His half time comments at Hampden, while not factually wrong, really rubbed the fanbase up the wrong way. The defeatist attitude along with ‘blame everyone else’ did not endear him to fans, even if he’d probably hoped his brutal honesty would be appreciated.

It backfired.

And his form this season hasn’t cut slack on those comments. He’s been average at best and woeful at worst.

But, and here’s the amusement – just like under SG he’s completely untouchable. He didn’t get the PL offers he wanted in January, didn’t sign a deal with anyone, but under Gio he’s as immune as ever to being dumped.

We have no rhyme or reason as to why that’s the case, why he’s untouchable. He just is.

In his ‘defence’ he’s always fit, which we can’t say about anyone else.

But maybe the reason for that is his defending is the least physical, and he rarely tackles. His partner usually does that.

In fact, Goldson strikes us as a defensive midfielder who plays CB – he’s composed on the ball, neat with the passes, but isn’t exactly robust with the stopping.

But whatever he is or isn’t, he’s not impressing anyone.

We do think it’s time for him to move on – he’s getting very stale and while his appearance level is undeniably impressive, it’s also sterile.

Four years is perfectly enough, and it would be nice to see a different few faces in there for once…

  1. This guy has had a good ‘leg up’ from Rangers lets be honest . There has been no interest in him or bids made. He needs to be either sold or contract completed . I’m sure with Souttar , Hellander and Balogun and hopefully another fresh face we will be sorted . At the moment we unfortunately need him . I will be more than happy to see him go.

  2. He was my player if the year last season and now he’s my dud of the year, along with McGregor which I hate to say they’ve cost us vauble points, Celtic don’t need to win the league, we’re winning it for them 😒😡
