Whisper it – a lot of fans genuinely wanted Rangers to make a move for Hibs’ Kevin Nisbet.

Indeed, a lot of talk the past year or so has been about the 24-yo coming to Ibrox, a bit like the Christmas links to him for Celtic as well.

But we can’t help feeling this lad is well below the standard needed, and the fact he’s got just one goal in the last 11 or something games is rather his shortcomings exposed.

Equally, we can’t say the absolutely abysmal Cedric Itten (what happened to you mate) is much better, true, but Nisbet has only 5 goals this season, in 25 outings, including when Hibs had Boyle.

He seems to have been a flash in the pan with a spurt of form the past year, his overall record for Hibs being 26 goals in 77 outings, which is rank average.

Rangers can do better, even if our current striker depth when there’s no Alfredo Morelos really isn’t great as things stand.

We will need one other quality hitman in the summer, because Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala just aren’t being used as out-and-out strikers, and neither of them are specialised there.

But whoever comes in, if anyone does, we certainly hope it isn’t Nisbet.

If it is, we sure as heck hope he proves us wrong.
