The confirmation Erling Haaland will not feature in Govan tomorrow night is a massive game-changer and gives Rangers a greater than 50/50 chance of making the last 16.

Dortmund showed how vulnerable they can be against the right opposition, which has seen St Pauli, Rangers and Leverkusen all dispatch the Bundesliga giants, and without their talisman in tow it makes it even harder.

Let’s not be naïve, they’ll be all-guns blazing, but they’re having to do it without Haaland again, and they’ve been notably weaker this season without him than with.

Simple maths, he’s the best pure striker in the world, with stats that would make your eyes water.

No hitman in history has definitely achieved his numbers by his age, which are roughly 130 goals in 170 matches, at all clubs, all for top-flight levels. And for his country it’s exactly the same, 12 in 15.

He’s a phenomenon, outscoring Original Ronaldo, C Ronaldo, Messi, Lewandowski, you name it. The greatest in history. The only man who could beat him was the absolute force of nature that was Pele, with 643 in 656 but we don’t know the exact number when he was Haaland’s age.

The point is Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun et al will not have to face this man, and it gives Rangers a real chance of going through.

It won’t be a stroll, they will be hellbent on revenge, but without Erling to aid them their job is tougher now.

With 50,000 Bears on their back, Borussia are under a tonne of pressure now.

And they’re potentially missing another 6 players too.

It’s Rangers’ time.
