Contract negotiations ‘on’ as Rangers’ Morelos looks to stay at Ibrox

GVB’s admission yesterday that Rangers are looking to tie down Alfredo Morelos on yet another extension (he’s out of contract next summer year like Joe Aribo) is such a dramatic turnaround for a striker who used to regularly tell us how much he wanted to leave and test himself in the PL.

The Colombian hitman has now done at least two interviews in the past 6 months where not only has he emphasised how happy he is at Ibrox, but that he’s happy to commit his future here too.

In the last half year, the tone change from ‘ambitions to the PL’ to ‘I want to stay at Ibrox’ has been pretty noticeable, and we can’t help wondering if Rangers nailing 55 and inching closer to Champions League participation has turned his head back from down south to closer to home.

Morelos will not get Liverpool, City or Chelsea, but would get lower PL like Watford, Palace and Burnley. Few players from the Old Firm get directly signed by a PL heavyweight, usually going to a lower (non-European) side to prove themselves before getting the big move.

But at Rangers he will win medals, he will have a strong chance of the CL next season, adoring fans and, let’s not forget, a half-decent wage.

Of course, PL sides can offer more, but while Morelos came close to moving to Lille then Porto, he finally seems like he’s genuinely content to remain at Rangers.

Let’s not forget if a £20M bid comes in, yes, Rangers will accept, but for the first time if no move manifests itself, it seems like the Colombian is finally happy with his lot.

And a happy Alfie is ideal for all of us.

  1. We shouldn’t forget that Morelos, and others like him(are you listening Conor), would be on very good money and a new 4 year contract could be worth around £6m to him. Ok he can get lots more elsewhere but he’s still set up for life if he stays.

  2. If he signs make him captain,Nobody mess with the Buff
Our friends from the east wont be best pleased about this news😂
