Rangers fans are today more than happy with yesterday’s Annan walkover, with the plucky League Two minnows giving it their best shot but absolutely miles below the standard needed to test Rangers’ Jon McLaughlin in goal.

Ultimately, this was never going to be a challenge, which is why Giovanni van Bronckhorst was delighted to give so many fringe players a day on the pitch, with a team close to what Ibrox Noise suggested to you yesterday as our predicted lineup.

Steven Davis, James Sands, Filip Helander and new signing Mateusz Zukowski all had a gentle day out, despite the horrific weather conditions, and Rangers strolled to an easy 3-0 win, even if the foot was well and truly off the gas in the second half.

This is a rare football match in which both sides are happy.

Rangers cruised to the next round, and Annan benefited from 2250 extra tickets being sold than usual, meaning their attendance was around 25000, giving the match a £50,000 gate.

Scottish Cup rules do state the gate is split down the middle, but we’d like to think Rangers would waive their half this time, given Annan need £25,000 a lot more than we do.

The Galabank side announced before this match they’d be investing in a new 4G pitch to replace the rather awful 3G thing they currently have, which is a club-changing investment.

And that means, either way, both clubs are happy with the outcome. Rangers are in the next round and no injury, plus the return of Filip Helander, while Annan have a wad of cash they wouldn’t have without Rangers.

In the end, a nice story.

  1. It’s the 2nd time the Famous have put money in their kitty. Good stuff. Only distasteful comments about us failing from the green leaning manager were disrespectful.
