Hearts are determined to get as much as they can out of John Souttar and Rangers after reports claimed the Gorgie side seek up to and beyond £600,000 for his immediate release.

The 25-year old Scotland defender has already signed a confirmed pre-contract with the Famous to begin life in Govan this summer, but Rangers are hoping to secure him pronto as they did last year with Jack Simpson and Scott Wright.

However Tynecastle chiefs believe they have a valuable asset on their hands and refuse to let him go now for anything below the value they deem he is worth at present.

If the shoe was on the other foot, and Rangers were losing one of our star players on a pre-contract with the destination club seeking him now, we too would want to juice every penny out of them as well. Connor Goldson, anyone?

But in general, Rangers fans aren’t happy that Hearts want that much for a player who will be a free agent in a few months’ time, and believe the club should leave the fee and just get him free come summer.

Where do we stand on Ibrox Noise?

We’re not as angry about the fee. The lad is a talent, and we paid more for Kyle Lafferty from the same club without fans being half as upset – albeit he was in the last year of his deal, not the last 6 months.

End of the day, Rangers have the money – and it’s really our board’s call. Up to them.

  1. Hearts can cut their nose off to spite their face but would be crazy to turn down £300k. They shouldn’t get any more. We’ve got Goldson, Balogun, Bassey, Sands, King, Simpson and Helander is back in training.

  2. Just leave it were getting him for nothing at the end of the season so who’s ball is the court in really we have plenty of players who can do the job till then

  3. Tricky 1 for me, we’ve the money from wee Patterson, JD’s wages off the books, also compo for the last manager, yet we’re not spending anything? I do agree we should get him for free in the summer, but if there’s a deal to be done for 2 or 300k, then I’d go for it?
