Rangers look set to bring in Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist in a move that would spell the end either for deputy Jon McLaughlin (out of contract this summer) or understudy Robby McCrorie (unlikely).

The 29-year old Swiss stopper has impressed between the sticks for the Arabs this season with a very decent 5 clean sheets in 16 appearances, and it’s said to have caught Rangers’ attention, and that also of PL side Southampton.

With 3 keepers on Rangers’ books already, this would certainly be a replacement, and the chances of it being for McCrorie are low – he’s highly-rated by the club and seen by quite a few as Allan McGregor’s successor.

But a number two is needed – McLaughlin is out of contract in the summer with no word on any talks to extend, and now Utd’s number one is in focus which suggests the ex-Sunderland’s man is nearing an end.

Information is McLaughlin seeks more playing time, and wants to be closer to being number one at Ibrox, but of course Rangers can’t offer him that – he was signed as a deputy but with McGregor aging he’d hoped to play more by this point.

But Rangers’ sights seem to be with young McCrorie if he impresses and improves, and as McGregor starts to wind his career down, the youngster will come more to the fore.

But Siegrist would be the vision for the future number two if he makes his way to Ibrox.

At this point it would be a pre-contract.
