Watford have absolutely shocked Rangers and our fans with a derisory £2M bid for Borna Barisic after we just second SECOND choice RB Nathan Patterson for 8 times that.
The London club seek defensive improvements to give them a fighting chance for survival, and believe the Croat would be the perfect fit, their interest having been confirmed in the summer.
But their lowball starting offer is pretty laughable and Rangers fans have reacted with ridicule at such a farcical opening bid.
It reminds us of when Fenerbahce tried to secure Alfredo Morelos not only on loan but on a £2.5M loan, another attempt at an offer which was laughed out of town.
But this one is more absurd.
Watford have just witnessed our second choice RB go for £16M and truly believed they could get a bid accepted for our first choice RB, a Croatian international no less, which was an 8th of that?
We get it – you start with a low offer and try to meet in the middle with the selling club.
But even Everton for Patterson began their bidding at a reasonable £5M, a number which was still way below the market value but which wasn’t completely insulting.
Watford crossed that line and will have to come up with easily 5 times that number for a bid to be considered.
