Years ago Ibrox Noise recalled watching a Dundee Utd or Hearts match v Celtic, can’t recall who, but a certain John Souttar, late teens early 20s, was having a storming match.

We made an observation of how good he was at CB, and a possible future Ranger, before the poor guy either got red carded or gave away a terrible penalty/free kick.

Commentator’s curse.

But that day his talent and qualities as a CB were easily identifiable, and he was surely going to rise to the top of the Scottish game.

Unfortunately for Souttar, injury curtailed that.

Every season of his career bar one Souttar has had injury problems, missing well over 3 seasons total of matches purely via injury or surgery.

We have to say, on a health and fitness basis, this is a potentially awful signing by Rangers.

But on an ability one, it could, if we strike it lucky with the fitness issue, be one of the best and most shrewd additions the club has made.

Make no mistake, this lad is an exceptional defender, he’s just been held back by his own body.

Whether he can overcome that to be the defender he’s capable of at Ibrox, only time will tell, but we are very excited about what he could be if he stays fit at last.

Welcome to Ibrox, John Souttar.
