A good update!

GVB’s latest injury update contains a mixed bag for Rangers fans, with stalwart Scott Arfield out, but Ryan Jack, Filip Helander and Kemar Roofe hopefully returning to training this week.

Steven Davis has also been ruled out but has been used so sparingly by the manager it’s not really that big an impact on the team, but Arfield’s absence could well be.

Indeed, facing Aberdeen, themselves in a strong run of form, isn’t ideal without the energy of Arfield firing up his team mates around him, but the match could see the debut of young James Sands deputising in that midfield alongside Glen Kamara.

Either way, it’s good news on the Jack, Helander and Roofe front, none of whom were expected to feature before February.

Admittedly Gio has only announced a likely return to Auchenhowie’s grounds for the three, which could still mean their restoration to the XI may be a bit of time away yet, but it’s certainly better news, especially on Jack’s part, to hear of no further apparent setbacks. For now anyway.

Interestingly there was no update whatsoever on Nigeria’s Leon Balogun, whose knock of two months ago has meant he’s not played a minute under GVB and had to miss out on the AFCON for his country too.

We’d imagine he remains unavailable.

But it’s more positive for the aforementioned trio.
