In all the hullaballoo about Rangers’ terrible result today, we’ve barely touched upon the much-vaunted debut of £40M man Amad Diallo.

The most remarkable thing about all this is this is the first time a player of that value has plied his trade in the SPL, even if only for 6 months.

While Celtic sold Tierney for £25M, for a player almost double that value to be strutting his stuff up here is testament to the brilliant job Ross Wilson and Gio van Bronckhorst did persuading him he could develop further in the Light Blue shirt.

As for his performance?

Stellar? There were so many signs of just how good he is, with repeating dancing his way through opponents, superb running off the ball (one led to a goal) and ballsy ambition (a mazy dribble then shot from distance led to a goal) showed how much of an upgrade Diallo is, for example, over Scott Wright.

Diallo is class, top top class. Is he world class? 19 and has three caps already for Ivory Coast, and Man Utd fended off competition to nab him from Atalanta’s youth after such impressive performances for their senior team, for an initial fee of £20M rising to £40M based on appearances.

So yes, we guess based on the credentials, he is, or has the potential to be, and we saw all the signs of that today.

Remember, this wasn’t the calm weather of Glasgow, this was the howling wind and torrential rain of Dingwall, this was the very epitome of ‘can he do it on a wet and windy afternoon in Dingwall’.

Yes, yes he can, and he can do it well.

It’s a crying shame we can’t keep him, and we highly doubt Utd will give us a discount… but one thing is for sure – Steven Gerrard never got a signing close to the gravity of this.

2 months in the door and Gio nails it already.

We look forward to more from the kid.
