Simpson’s Rangers nightmare to be cut short as 3 sides make move
PERTH, SCOTLAND - APRIL 21: Jack Simpson of Rangers looks dejected after conceding his side's first goal scored by Liam Craig of St Johnstone during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership Match between St Johnstone and Rangers at McDiarmid Park on April 21, 2021 in Perth, Scotland. Rangers are set to sell Jack Simpson in the January window after Swansea, QPR and Boro were confirmed as interested in bringing the failed defensive signing back south.

The former Bournemouth stopper has had probably the worst time of any SG signing, being exposed as far far far below the level required even of a squad player at Ibrox, and the 24-year old’s Rangers nightmare could be over soon with all three Championship sides looking taking him home.

Simpson is subject to a court case over alleged drink-driving and will stand trial next summer, but it’s not thought to be serious enough to put his suitors off, and it’s clear he’s not going to be part of GVB’s era at Ibrox going forward.

What inspired this dismal signing?

Ibrox Noise was on record as not supporting this signature and looking at his CV was deeply worrying. Yes, he’d managed 6 PL starts and 11 appearances at that level in total, but that he had, at 23, just 20 senior appearances in football, period, was a huge red flag and clearly he wasn’t good enough for a club of even modest size, never mind a colossus like Rangers.

His value? Well if Rangers can get even a pound for him we’ll take it.

Without any question, Jack Simpson is among the worst permanent signings of the SG era, alongside Eros Grezda, Bongani Zungu and Jake Hastie.

May he leave with our utter blessing.
