Giovanni van Bronckhorst has created a piece of Rangers history by becoming the first Rangers manager since Jock Wallace 49 years ago to win their first three matches as Govan boss.

Not since the great man in the 70s have we had a start this good, and despite the patchiness of a bit of the form here and there, 3 matches, 6 scored and one goal conceded suggests GVB is certainly doing something right.

Not even the great Walter was able to manage three wins in a row in all competitions at the start of either tenure, so while we’re in no way saying this makes Gio a better boss than anyone who went before him, his start certainly attracts praise rather than ridicule.

It’s quite significant when you look at some of the great men to sit at the top of the Marble Staircase over the years since and including Jock:

Advocaat, McLeish, Smith, Souness, Smith again and of course Pedro (only kidding) show just the kind of company Gio is keeping, and that he’s beaten the lot to this astonishing start tells a lot about the potential under him.

The future is bright….
