Rangers fans might not be too familiar with Argentine Mateo Musacchio, but the former international defender is currently a lucrative free agent at 31 and if there’s one thing Rangers could use a bit of cover in, it’s CB.
A former £20M stopper who’s plied his trade at AC Milan and Villarreal, the ex-Lazio man was part of a Yellow Submarine defence that conceded just 33 goals as they finished 5th before he left, which was less than 3 of the top 4 in Spain.
And he’s played at some of the top levels the world over – Spain and Italy being the big standouts but with Champions League experience too as well as tonnes of Europa League.
In short, a very fine Bosman, but there is a catch – he has a bit of injury history now. He’s picked up a few in the past few years and indeed Milan freed him on that basis, and his recent time in Rome wasn’t terrific either, so it’s not a flawless addition.
But if Gio wants to take a chance on a theoretically top class defender with experience of the very best of football, Musacchio could be worth a punt.
As long as the wages are acceptable.
No thanks. We have enough of our own regular crocks in Helander, Jack, Balogun and Roofe. No more please.
Too old
You’re joking. We need fully fit younger defenders, not another sick note looking for his last big payday.
