Rangers scouts have begun January work in earnest by reportedly monitoring Anderlecht’s 27-year old centre back Wesley Hoedt, a 6-cap Dutch international.

The 6ft 1 defender is a former team mate of Steven Davis and has a close link to Ross Wilson as well, having been brought to Southampton by the-then Director of Football at St Mary’s.

The ex-Lazio man is contracted in Belgium for another four years but his value is barely more than £3M albeit Rangers currently don’t, on the face of it, have too much spare cash for such investment.

That said, GVB will know exactly the state of play, whether he has any disposable to play with or not, and while this lad is under contract, there may be another way. And we’ll get to that later.

For now, Rangers are looking at a player with 3 major connections to Rangers – Wilson, Roofe, and his nationality for GVB.

We’ll see how it goes.
