Rangers are considering a January move for Alkmaar’s Albert Guðmundsson, a right winger and Iceland international.

The interest in the £4M-rated 24-year old would suggest the club has decided against pursuing Bologna’s Andreas Skov Olsen, and in truth, this lucrative alternative would come at no cost at all, being out of contract in the summer.

Old Firm rivals Celtic are also said to be looking at him, but we’d imagine he’d be much more interested in Rangers given our manager and current position.

His numbers are good – he has an excellent 34 assists in 89 club career appearances as a RW, and has 6 goals and 3 assists in his 28 Iceland caps.

In terms of type of player, think Ryan Kent but on the other side. Good dribbler, good technical ability, but known to be slightly selfish with the ball and sometimes goes too far without looking for a team mate.

Equally though his career to date, given Arsenal tried and failed to sign him (he turned them down), suggests he’s more than a good player.

He’d be a very useful addition if we can get him for nothing.

And it would be great fun to beat Celtic to the chase.

  1. Just seen the guy Skov Olsen assisted the boy Hickey in the second goal in Bologne’s 3-0 win over sassuolo . Anyone see the game ? Or if he played well ?
