Leon in Lyon? Shock start on cards for defender

Leon King could be in line for a shock Rangers start after Leon Balogun was confirmed as being rested for the final UEL group match v Lyon.

While Rangers have had a settled back four under Gio of Tavernier, Goldson, Bassey and Barisic, the manager has revealed he will be giving the fringe players a chance, which could mean a stunning appearance for the 17-year old defender, subject of interest from the Manchester giants among others.

Of course, cynics might say this is putting the kid in the shop window, but equally he will have to play at some point and what better learning experience than on a UEL night v this quality of opposition in a match which has no serious implications for anyone.

So could we see King?

We think more likely as a sub. GVB may not want to throw such an inexperienced player right in at the deep end, but as the Dutch manager said when he joined – if you’re good enough you’re old enough, and that’s been the philosophy from Holland for as long as we can remember.

So we’ll see later today if the lad is involved at all.
