Ryan Jack is set to return to tonight’s matchday squad to face Hibs having missed Sunday on grounds of the artificial turf, pun not intended.

The midfielder was left out on Sunday following his long recovery from various niggles and injuries, but with Easter Road back to being conventional grass the Scotland midfielder is in line to at least be on the bench again, and maybe a shock bet for a starting slot, albeit unlikely.

Rangers and Gio seek to make a big statement tonight, having the pain of a week and a half ago still fresh in the memory, and a win on the Leith turf would do a lot to banish that horror to the dustbin where it belongs.

Whether Jack is ready for a starting berth only he and Gio know, but he looked healthy enough when he came on against the same opposition last weekend week and he does look like he’s getting closer to being completely poised.

He said himself he’s 100% ready, but all players would say that.

It’s up to the medical and fitness as well as management teams to judge just how ready a player really is – a new setback now would probably crush Jack beyond words, so it’s still kid gloves.

But a place on the bench certainly wouldn’t be too much for him.

Time will tell.

  1. We all love Jacko but next time he has an injury it’s time to admit defeat and let him go as there is no point keeping a player on the books if they can only play 2 games a season, when does enough become enough
