A target for Villa?

Leon King has become the first serious SG Aston Villa link after the former Rangers manager’s name was connected with a bargain-basement £200K move for the 17-year old rising star of Auchenhowie.

King is on the cusp of breaking into Rangers’ senior squad, but due to cross-border rules, would only cost an English side a few pennies in the same rules which got Rangers Joe Aribo for about the same amount.

But it is intriguing that SG is said to be looking at King given he didn’t give him much of a pathway or look in when he was manager at Ibrox.

Is King ready? He’s made a couple of cameos in the split and in the cup, but he’s only 17 and is about as green as they come.

However, Rangers really don’t want another Danny Wilson or Billy Gilmour where we lose an outstandingly talented youngster to a PL side, and of course in Gilmour’s case it was for buttons.

King going south would be similar.

A regular for the B team, King is looking ready to close in on a senior spot, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst of course doesn’t know him particularly well and may not also know the Gilmour history, or indeed that of Nathan Young-Coombes, albeit the latter sure hasn’t cracked the Brentford side either.

We’ll see if our ex manager does try to nick King.

  1. Rangers should be seriously looking to give Leon King a start in the senior team as he’s good enough to compete at that level, also stevie g should be told to sling his hook if he thinks he can pinch one of our top talents for buttons. Don’t want another Billy gilmour situation.
