Final Joe Aribo decision to arrive this week
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 21: Rangers player Joe Aribo looks on during the warm up before the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 21, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Rangers are still waiting to hear final confirmation on Nigeria trio Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey’s participation or otherwise in the AFCON next month after former Super Eagles’ boss Gernot Rohr had previously hinted at conceding defeat.

The decision is said to be arriving before the weekend, with the German manager saying in November:

“Somebody called me from Glasgow already they have the derby Glasgow Rangers vs Celtic on the second or third of January if we can let the players play. We have a lot of problems to prepare the team but I think we will have most of our players at least ten days before.”

And this week will see the final decision being delivered by new boss Augustine Eguavoen, as to whether we’ll have, in particular, Joe Aribo available come early January or not.

The former Charlton man has been an absolute standout this season, and his value has skyrocketed. Being an international too has only aided his reputation and his performances for the Famous have easily been his best to date.

He’d be a big miss if called up and we sure hope Eguavoen commits an act of altruism and leaves him and his two team mates out. At least for that one match.

    • Yup, hands up, we’re late on this one. Happened 24 hours ago. Not the most obvious of stories for a Rangers site to have noticed in fairness, so yes, you’re right, back to square one.
