Rangers need to sever ties with January signing
PERTH, SCOTLAND - APRIL 21: Jack Simpson of Rangers looks dejected after conceding his side's first goal scored by Liam Craig of St Johnstone during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership Match between St Johnstone and Rangers at McDiarmid Park on April 21, 2021 in Perth, Scotland. If one man has been completely forgotten at Ibrox, it’s Jack Simpson. One of the ex’s many bizarre signings, along with the likes of Jake Hastie and Brandon Barker, the former Bournemouth man’s CV was, at best, mediocre, and for love nor money we couldn’t fathom what the-then 23 year old could bring to the club.

And a year on from signing him, it’s become clear he’s nowhere near good enough even to be a squad member, and has lost his place completely in any form of the team, with a current criminal trial hanging over him for alleged reckless driving.

It hasn’t gone to script for the defender at Ibrox, but then, arguably, maybe it’s done exactly that.

At his age, just 20 appearances in senior football before our ex manager brought him north to Rangers suggested this, like Hastie and many others, was an inexplicable signing and would bring nothing to the side.

And that’s how it’s played out.

Now, there is a caveat – Simpson managed 11 PL appearances. That’s right, 11. Back in his days with the Cherries. That’s actually not that bad, but since then his career has only really gone downhill.

We’re sure he’s a nice enough guy… maybe… given his alleged stupidity behind the wheel, but this is not the stuff we want from our defenders.

Hopefully the contract can be terminated ASAP.
