Rangers & Gerrard radio silent over Villa story

We will say this on the SG story, which, let’s face it, has been the dominant topic today:

If it wasn’t true, our manager really should have put out a statement to a friend or two in the Scottish media (he has more than one) assuring fans there was no truth in this story.

The fact he hasn’t is actually a disquieting reality on three levels:

1: He isn’t interested enough in Rangers fans to put our worried minds at rest, knowing full well he’s all over the media and credible sources are claiming he’s gone. At no point has he thought ‘well I better clear this one up’ and this story has been running now for 48 hours.

Gerrard is on social media, he absolutely will see thousands of comments from concerned Rangers fans, and doesn’t put out a quick post saying it’s not true.

2: His silence means it almost certainly is true. He can’t put out a statement reassuring us it’s not true because that would be a complete lie and with his imminent talks with Villa upcoming that’s now his focus.

He was filmed in London – why is the Rangers manager in London on an international break? Sure, he’s allowed to have a life outside of the club, we get that, but we’ve never before seen him away when he’s technically supposed to be working.

3: Then there’s Rangers themselves – no statement denying media reports, no statement confirming them. In fact a complete silence when Rangers fans don’t know which way we’re going. This isn’t great from the club who could have put some minds at rest either way, but nope, tumbleweed. The only thing we got earier today was a news report, not official, saying Rangers have denied being approached. But that was quite a while ago.

We can honestly say this situation isn’t being handled well by anyone, including our manager.

Maybe the club’s hands are tied, we don’t know, but Gerrard’s silence is the most disappointing aspect of all.

If he is leaving, there won’t be the same betrayal and horror that there was re: Souness, but there will be reactions, and a lot of them.

‘We watch, and wait’.

  1. Quicker he goes the better for all concerned and l will raise a glass or 5 when that day comes, l was hoping it was De Boer to take the reigns but Gio VB is a good second choice

  2. We all knew this day would come he knows Rangers are a stepping stone to the EPL and beyond , although the timing for us is shite. If we can secure Van Bronkhorst it would be good business and also get good money in compensation for Gerrard . I’m not happy about it but see his point , Rangers are stuck in the shit financially and his hands have been tied for a while let’s not hide that. Villa will win fuck all they are second rate so I’m not sure what experience he gains here or how ir helps his route to Anfield . Onwards Rangers First Onwards 56
