Famously, the title win last season for Rangers ended the dominance of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. That title wasn’t designed to be a one-off. Instead, it was supposed to be the first of many. Strengthening of the squad took place this summer, with three main incomings and two of those arrived from the English Championship.

John Lundstram arrived from Sheffield United, and while he has been good for the Bears, his absence is also telling for Sheffield United. The Championship relegation odds from Betfair make The Blades just 2.04 to be relegated as of November 16, showing how far they have fallen.

At the start of the season, many expected United to be towards the top of the table, and featuring heavily in the weekly Championship tips that are produced, but so far we have seen nothing but inconsistency from them. While this cannot be blamed on the loss of one player, not having the defensive side of Lundstram’s game in midfield is certainly part of the reason why they have struggled.

For Rangers, Lundstram has held things together well and even scored a league goal as well as one in the cup, an area that is not usually associated with his game. Both domestically and in Europe, the midfielder has added substance to the middle of the park.

Another Championship Signing Makes Good Start

Juninho Bacuna was another player brought into Ibrox this summer, this signing coming from Huddersfield, and he is another to have done well. The feeling is that whatever Bacuna does this calendar year, he will be even better when we get into 2022.

A more attacking player, Bacuna has shown glimpses but appears to have a little more to give, and that will hopefully come in time.

With both players coming from the English Championship, and seemingly settling in relatively quickly to help the team, it would be no surprise to see Rangers continue to mine this league and try to take the best out of it.

Zambian Forward Sakala Finding the Net Early

The Gers have had a good record bringing strikers into the club, and they appear to have found another strong option this summer. This one didn’t come via the Championship. Instead, Fashion Sakala was signed from KV Oostende, who play in the top division in Belgium.

A free transfer, the Rangers hierarchy will be thrilled with what he has brought to the team so far, with four league goals from nine games. He’s only played 400 minutes of football across those nine games, which means he has effectively been playing for half a game each time, so to see him scoring four goals already is a great sign.

Just like Bacuna, the feeling is that there is more to come, and with more game time that should happen anyway, regardless of whether or not he actually improves from gaining more time in the Scottish game or just being able to properly showcase his natural skills.

Rangers are expected to score plenty of goals, and Sakala is just another option for the club to use throughout the season.
