Jean-Paul van Gastel, the current Guangzhou City coach in replacement of GVB, has admitted he’s 100% not coming to Rangers, and the reason Gio quit China was because he missed his family.

Due to border restrictions, van Bronkhorst was separated from his family, and after a period in the Super League he quit to be with them again.

But van Gastel is never joining and is enjoying being manager too much to give it up.

Which is fair enough.

Gio is of course completely reunited with his loved ones at Ibrox, with the family all moving to Scotland for their new adventure together, but that wasn’t something he was able to enjoy in China and it probably explains a lot of why the results there under Gio weren’t spectacular, only solid.

But he won’t be getting his trusted number two because van Gastel likes being manager too much now. And he also revealed that Gio was quite happy with him taking over as boss instead.

In short, van Gastel was never coming to the UK, and Gio already knew that, and he set about appointing a new team as his backroom staff.

And it hasn’t started out too badly, if we’re honest.
