Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has given a positive update on Sweden defender Filip Helander confirming his return to training but reinforcing the lack of an absolute availability date.
The big stopper, who was robbed of the last 3 months with another bad injury sustained v St Johnstone in September, has been a big miss for Rangers this season, and the initial prognosis was given to us as January.
It appears that may still be the case, and GVB could only say he hopes to have Helander back soon.
The big Swede, widely regarded as Rangers’ best outright defender, showed his qualities earlier this year in a colossal display v Spain, and has been increasingly consistent at Ibrox since joining.
However he hasn’t had his injury issues to seek, having missed almost a full league season of matches since he joined, which is quite the increase of never having missed much more than 15 in any previous season with his prior clubs.
But he’s on the mend, he is on his feet, and he was pictured standing for Walter’s silence at Auchenhowie along with the rest of the squad, so he is getting there.
Hopefully best case scenario we get him back before new year.
Agree he’s our best technical defender with good reading of the game. Hopefully we get him back soon .
