Sunday’s challenge v Livi will be a completely different kettle of fish for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers compared with the European stuff we saw v Prague.

Bear in mind, despite his mince domestic performances (aside 55), Gio’s predecessor also excelled in Europe, and it’s worth remembering both of these men know European football well.

So how will Gio deal with Livi?

He’s well aware the Almondvale side not only will sit in, unlike Prague, but they’re on 4G turf too, unlike most stadiums Gio’s played or managed at.

It’s a very different challenge and we’d imagine the manager is more than up for it.

But bear in mind Livi didn’t actually exist in the SPL when Gio played here as a player, so this for him is a first-time opponent, a bit like Prague in fairness, and certainly as manager.

We can expect David Martindale’s side to sit in, and they have had such a poor start this season (just 13 points) that they’ll fight harder than most to get something from this match.

They do, however, have two wins on the bounce so they may just have grabbed some form.

Rangers SHOULD have too much for them, but we must remember this opponent is 100% different to Gio’s maiden bow as Rangers manager.

Expect a very different match.
