Gio demands better despite shock stat for Gers at Livi

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s assertion that Rangers need to be more secure in their passing gives some idea of the manager’s expectations, given not a single player in the side had an average below 81% yesterday.

The manager was disquieted with what he considered sub-par accuracy in the passing, despite 6 players nailing 90% accuracy or more, and 6 with the high 80s. Only Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo, with a ‘lowly’ 82% and 81% respectively ‘let the side down’.

Indeed, GVB’s standards are clearly lifting Rangers much higher than they were under the ex, and if we look at the number of times in total Rangers were dispossessed it’s intriguing.

10 in total, which isn’t too bad, but it’s wasteful ball use Gio’s most frustrated with.

27 times a Rangers player wrecked a touch, losing the ball via ‘unforced errors’ and that’s where the looseness the manager is getting at kicks in.

But in terms of retaining the ball through clean passing, the side is actually doing not too badly at all, and it seems that’s still not good enough for the boss.

Gio clearly wants even better.

And that’s exactly what we should always strive for.
