Scott Arfield’s admission that no contract chat has ever taken place around him is no surprise whatsoever, and Ibrox Noise did cover around a year or so ago that of all Stevie’s big favourite players, he and Connor Goldson were the two over which an extension had never been discussed.

The latter, of course, is embroiled in a bit of a contract saga, having failed to commit to the offer he received in the Spring, but Arfield continues to this day on the same deal he originally signed up on and hasn’t been offered an extension.

This is intriguing, and if we’re frank, disappointing.

Few of our players have given us what the ex-Canada international has, in both guts and sheer quality, and his return to the first team recently shows us what we’ve been missing while he’s been out of it.

So to know from the horse’s mouth that Arfield most definitely hasn’t been subject to negotiations of an extension when his deal expires in a little over 6 months is bizarre.

He is of course free to chat to other teams in January, and that may well be his prerogative, and it may indeed be that the former Burnley man decided to make his stay at Ibrox a clean four years, see out his deal and that be that.

That could well be the case.

But we know he’s a Bluenose, one of us, and this is surely where he wants to be, so why on earth isn’t he being talked to?

It’s a strange one, especially given he headlined the recent presser AND he’s the main promotional player fronting this morning’s Brondby material on Rangers’ social networks.

The fans love him, Gerrard has said in the past that he loves him, so what gives?

Mr Rangers, it’s over to you.

  1. I think it’s just a case of Arfield getting back in the team and proving his worth (again). I’d then expect to see a 1-2 year contract offered.
