A middling night for Rangers as substitute Ianis Hagi salvaged a draw for a pretty lacklustre away side.

Here’s our ratings for an underwhelming night in Denmark.

McGregor:

Had no chance with the goal and made no saves. Didn’t claim much and looks like he’s veering off into retirement more now every match. Seems to lack much presence or energy any more. 5

Tavernier:

Lots of energy and saved at least one goal, no one touched the ball more than the captain and his crossing remains a weapon. Was covered well during his raids forward, so good communication. 7

Goldson:

A better night from the vice-captain who was positionally solid and made some vital clearances. His best display for a long time. 7

Balogun:

Strong as always, deeply unlucky with the OG, and got in lots of blocks, interceptions and tackles. OG aside it was a good night from him. 7

Barisic:

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Looks absolutely dead on his feet. Just doesn’t have anything in the tank these days and made Stevie look silly with his pre-match assurances on why he picked the Croat. 4

Davis:

Flat. Struggled to do much and gave the ball away a few times. This was a return to his pre-Motherwell self and demonstrated displays like Fir Park will be few and far between now. 5

Kamara:

Pretty poor – didn’t get into this, probably wasn’t fit, but it was back to the statue Kamara that’s been his main feature this season. 5

Arfield:

The only energy we had in the middle, Arfield tried to make things happen, and with a passing level which exceeded 92% he mostly succeeded. But he was kind of alone. 7

Aribo:

Did make some attempts at creativity but little came off. Wasn’t in this one enough and won’t be happy with his night. 5

Sakala:

Poor. Had the running but lacked the composure. Faded drastically after half an hour. 5

Morelos:

Completely terrible. Only Sakala had the ball less of the outfield players and he was rightly taken off. That early stupid booking ruined him, and it was his own fault. 4

Subs:

Roofe:

Nearly grabbed the winner and his energy was welcome. 6

Hagi:

Magical winner and he definitely had the impact he wanted. 7

Kent:

Showed why we’ve missed him. Lifted everyone around him and looked thrifty. Major part in the goal. 8

Bassey:

Immediately more energy than Barisic. 6

Manager:

Steven Gerrard justifiably went with the same XI which thrived v Motherwell, aside the dismal ditching of Bassey for the hapless Barisic, but the energy levels were AWOL. For long spells his men just didn’t show up, and it wasn’t till deep into the second half the visitors finally got a grip of the game. The switch of the front three was the right call, even if removing the best player, Arfield, was puzzling. A strange night from the manager. 6

  1. How long will we persevere with Morelos. He is not nearly mobile enough (or just plain lazy) and his first touch is awful. Morelos of 2019 has gone and he’s not coming back. Roofe playing every week will score more goals than Morelos. Get him benched and play with Sakala, Roofe and Kent
