Striker stunner has given Stevie G a big Rangers headache

Few could have failed to notice Rangers’ Zambian star Fashion Sakala’s mesmerising goal on the international break.

The stunning strike against Equatorial Guinea showed everything the ex-Oostende star really has in his locker, with a wonderful turn, pace, skill, vision, and a clinical finish.

The fact this player was free for Steven Gerrard was a glorious bonus, and there is no doubt Sakala has both the talent and the attitude to make it at Ibrox.

There have been many misgivings about his quality from fans, many of who are keen to espouse how superior Alfredo Morelos is. And there’s a lot of merit in Morelos’ qualities – he’s shown incredible ability in Europe for Rangers and while his form in recent times hasn’t sparkled, he’s still capable of winning matches – just like he did v Hibs.

But Sakala absolutely wants to be here, and his Colombian rival doesn’t.

And that’s why there’s a small evolution in the direction of the Zambian, and a focus on his attributes and what he can bring to Rangers.

He still has a lot to learn about how football is in the SPL, and how to thrive in Europe – he is a long way from being established in Govan and for pure quality, right now, Morelos is clearly ahead.

But Sakala’s stellar goal on duty for his country (his first in 13 caps alongside 3 assists) show he’s only getting better and the day Stevie has a real choice between two alpha strikers in both Morelos and Sakala is a good day for Rangers.
