A devastated Steven Gerrard today understandably broke down during a tribute to Walter, showing just what kind of impact the Rangers legend had had on our present manager, and how close they were.

It is well-known Walter was Stevie’s mentor, continually giving him guidance and advice, as well as becoming a very close friend, and while expressing his thoughts on the Rangers Family’s loss he broke down completely, as many of us are.

It’s a dark, dark day in the history of Rangers Football Club, and the club is in mourning, but Gerrard followed Walter’s wisdom closely. He was his consigliere in many ways, and showed him just what it is to be Rangers manager.

Ally McCoist was also deeply emotional on Talksport this morning, with these fellow Rangers legends paying their respects to the man, but struggling to compose themselves, as we all are.

But as Gerrard said, in among the tributes, we have a game to win tomorrow and it’s the least Walter deserves.
