It’s safe to say there’s more importance on this Rangers Hibs game at the weekend than we can remember going into such a fixture for years.

A top of the table clash, if Rangers succumb to present form and other results go against us too, Rangers could find themselves third at the end of play on Sunday, and that is why it is beyond essential Stevie figures something out between now and the weekend to secure an absolutely critical win.

Looking at recent form, Hibs haven’t lost in almost two months – and only Croatia’s Rijeka have managed to consign Jack Ross’s men to defeat all season, so it’s safe to say this will be Rangers’ biggest match of the season domestically.

Celtic are nowhere, and not a threat for now, but Hibs (and Hearts not to mention Motherwell) have serious momentum. This is why a home win on Sunday takes away all that form and keeps Rangers top.

But it will be far from easy. The harsh blunt truth is Hibs are in better form than us. They’re unbeaten all season aside that Rijeka loss while Rangers have succumbed to a number of defeats already, and it is vital our manager and our team up their game dramatically otherwise Ross will leave Ibrox with 3 points.

This is nothing most fans don’t already know – we’re not in the best shape we’ve been, and our manager is struggling to find cohesion.

But Sunday, and a top of the table clash, would be the perfect antidote to recent troubles, and a good win, or a well-fought win for Gerrard’s men would be the ideal injection of belief we’ve needed.
