The Scottish media outright lied again more than once after taking a big dig at Borna Barisic and his lack of minutes at the Euros.

Following Barisic’s latest cap, the press made some initially false claims this morning that he’d lost his place at the Euros to Stuttgart’s Brna Sosa, but of course it was Leipzig’s Joseph Gvardiol who’d actually taken his place this summer.

Then the glorious media deliberately falsified quotes from Zlatko Dalic to suggest Barisic had lost his place, when in fact the Croatia boss was referring to Osijek’s Mile Škorić:

When asked what the chances of Škorić playing, the NT boss said:

“I’m happy with him (Mile), he is here. The competition is very strong, there are players who play in the Bundesliga and stronger clubs. I would like the situation to open up for him, but competition is very strong. Borna is also in the mix. Whoever I put, I will not go wrong.”

Barisic was referred to as one of the players from the stronger clubs, not a player being dropped because of other players with better clubs.

But look how our press compiled it:

“I am happy with the growing number of young players who are coming and the growing competition. Borna is here and in competition. The competition is very strong, there are players who play in the Bundesliga and stronger clubs. I would like the situation to open up for him, but competition is very strong, but Borna is also in the mix. Whoever I put, I will not go wrong.”

Barisic gained his latest cap last night, after losing his place for the Euros through injury and loss of form, but his passing level and workrate v Slovakia were of a player on his way back.

But don’t let any of that stop the press from making up lies about Rangers’ star LB.
