Leon Balogun has made amends for his gaffe last match by scoring the opening goal for Nigeria v Central Africa and it was an absolute doozy as his first-ever for his country.
The 34-year old defender made headlines for all the wrong reasons v the same side a few days ago, but his incredible season continues and he showed all the striker instincts in the world to stick the ball home from a long assist, very much akin to Defoe v Livi with assist from Tav.
Balogun has had a brilliant 21/22, Rangers’ outstanding central defender for sure, and that performance at RB v Celtic was one of his career highlights by a distance.
But today scoring that first international goal in over 30 appearances for the Super Eagles wasn’t just making the gaffe in the last one right, it was a frankly world class piece of both movement and finishing to make Defoe proud.
Balogun and Rangers team mate Joe Aribo once again started this one, with Calvin Bassey remaining on the bench, but the big African giants will be much happier with today’s work than the loss v CA a few days ago.
Good job guys.
