Rangers could be set to sell Connor Goldson for a cut-price deal in January after the defender’s contract issues continued on, and sources suggested he intends to run the deal down and leave for free in the summer.

Goldson is well aware clubs are not bidding enough for Rangers’ most prized assets, with only Nathan Patterson’s numbers even coming anywhere near the same ballpark as what the club values him at, so the stopper is reportedly eager to avoid signing a new deal and being tied down long term with no way out.

It’s become patently clear, with his being given an offer in May and failing to accept, that the defender isn’t looking interested at Ibrox anymore. He achieved the zenith of winning the league, and his passion is conspicuously AWOL this season.

Even yesterday, with the majority of the side in good heart and working hard to win the match, Goldson (and one or two others) were the only players a lot less gutsy and lacking much input.

Goldson, though, appears to be figuring out his next move, and even if Rangers fans were to open their digital devices and learn he’s surprised us all by signing a new deal, any rhetoric claiming it was ‘an easy decision to make’ will not wash now.

As such, Rangers might be willing to accept a more modest bid in January in order to not lose a club asset for nothing come next summer, which appears to be Goldson’s plan now.

In truth, it’s up to him. His career, his life. Rangers gave him his career back, and he’s certainly taken that chance. But it seems like he considers simply seeing out his deal to be enough, and isn’t wishing to remain beyond the four years.

Goldson almost certainly wants another shot at the PL, and is eager for any club to make its move.

Either that, or he’ll go back south next summer as a Bosman.

Time, as always, will tell.

  1. I think most people expected this from him. We paid £3.06 million for him , improved him as a player and gave him the chance to win things and play in Europe for one of the greatest clubs in the world and this is how he repays the Famous . Shocking disrespectful behaviour . Please do flog him , for as much as we can get , but PL….no chance he’s not at that level . He’s never been one of my preferred choices I would have Katic before him . No surprise this ….wretch .

  2. 1 good season out of 4 don’t think he’ll be missed, definitely replaceable regardless of what the gaffer thinks.
