Rangers could have one in and one out already in January if today’s latest reports have any credibility at all, with claims Blackburn Rovers’ Joe Rothwell is set to sign a pre-contract agreement in the new year, while Everton are allegedly coming back in with a new bid for Nathan Patterson.

The Rothwell story is an intriguing one, a site in England running it exclusively, and they seem pretty convinced Rovers have resigned themselves to losing the midfielder, who Tony Mowbray believes is a PL-level player.

If he has agreed to join Rangers, it’s a pretty decent signing, Rothwell being a former England youth international. The question is, if he’s that good, why has this lad not been tapped up by the PL by this age?

On the other hand Patterson continues to interest Everton and again stories south of the border reckon Rafa Benitez will come in for him once more in a few months. With Rangers having rejected an £8M bid already as ‘way below’ his value, it’s apparent the Ibrox side expect a serious £15M bid minimum for the RB to even be worth any sort of consideration.

Patterson’s reputation has only grown – and so has his value.

But fans would not be happy even with £20M because there’s a real feeling of preference for him over Tavernier at present.

We’ll just see what January brings us with these two…

  1. To be honest, I’ve never even heard of Joe Rothwell, but then again, sometimes these unknowns go on to be fantastic and l hope we can keep hold of Patterson, the young lad will be a legend…… if he ever gets a starting position every week
