Newcastle are said to be keeping tabs on Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos as the Geordie side work on their overhaul under new ownership.

With the Magpies expected to relieve manager Steve Bruce of his duties within the next few days, Rangers’ Colombian striker has been quoted as a player the new board are very interested in, and the transfer fee of £20M would not be a problem.

Newcastle currently sit second bottom and are in desperate need of goals, so will be seeking good quality players without showing too much financial muscle and falling foul of both FFP and ‘short term fix’ scenario.

As such Morelos would be considered a ‘moderate’ purchase without being the £50M+ striker a cash-rich side might be expected to invest in.

The former HJK man has been looking for his move away for some time, and the PL has always represented his dream destination, so a transfer to St James’ Park would be perfect for the 25-year old, but he is naturally only one man on the shortlist of players Staveley and co want to bring in.

We will see in January if they take their interest further.
