There was a lot of good in Rangers’ easy win over the mediocre Brondby, but the big big blot has to be the loss of Leon Balogun to an untimely hamstring injury.

This was desperately unwanted, and desperately predictable, such is the Nigerian’s injury history, and with Calvin Bassey replacing him late in the second half, it could leave Rangers desperately short at the back with just Connor Goldson, Bassey, and unfavoured Jack Simpson as options.

Rangers were exposed slightly on a few occasions tonight, with two balls over the top carving the backline open, while Borna Barisic committed a truly dreadful backpass which should have seen a goal for the visitors, only for horrific finishing to spare the Croat’s blushes, so losing Balogun now is not good news at all.

Rangers aside the 3 senior CBs mentioned have no cover for that position, and we’re now going into that critical November December period where one could argue the title is won or lost, as Gary Mac admitted in the autumn of 55.

So losing Balogun doesn’t help at all.

Rangers may have to call upon the Auchenhowie kids like Leon King, but then, surely if they’re good enough they’ll be able to cope?

It’s still a big blow, Balogun has been our best CB this season, and we dearly hope the injury is not serious.
